Urban Poverty in the 1980's
Mr. Harrington, Professor of Political Science at Queens College and one of America's foremost socialists, chaired the Socialist Party of the US from 1968 to 1972 and now chairs the Democratic Socialists of America. He has written numerous books, including The Vast Majority: A Journey to the World's Poor, The Other America, Decade of Decision: The Crisis of the American System and to be published this spring, The Politics of God's Funeral - The Spiritual Crisis of Western Society. Long active in liberal and trade union causes, he served as a member of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's advisory committee in the 1960's and as an initiator of the Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee in 1973. Mr. Harrington was educated at Holy Cross, Yale, and the University of Chicago.
