Virginia Hamilton has received every major award and honor which can be accorded an American author of children's books. Her works include Zeely; M.C. Higgins, the Great; and The House of Dies Drear, which was dramatized on public television as a part of Wonderworks.
Arnold Adoff is a poet and anthologist. His books of poetry for children include All the colors of the Race, Eats, and Today We Are Brother and Sister. He taught for 12 years in Harlem and other New York City public schools.
