Exiled South African Dennis Brutus is a poet, activist, and Professor of English at Northwestern University. His political activities include organizing the successful campaign to have South Africa and Rhodesia banned from the Olympic games, directing the World Campaign for Release of South African Political Prisoners, chairing the International Campaign Against Racism in Sport, and serving as United Nations Representative for International Defense and Aid. Mr. Brutus has written nine books of poetry including the highly acclaimed Sirens, Knuckles, Boots, winner of Africa's Mbari Prize, which he rejected.
