John Kerry, 2004 Democratic nominee for president, has been a U.S. Senator from Massachusetts since 1984. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he has served on Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs and is the ranking Democrat on the East Asian and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee. He has been a leading voice on American policy in Iraq and Afghanistan, the war on terrorism, and the Middle East peace process. Kerry is the author of A Call to Service and The New War, an in-depth study of America's national security in the 21st Century. Part of the 2008 Campaign Series which has the goal of providing the university community with opportunities to question candidates or their surrogates before election day.
