Flynt Leverett served at the White House as Senior Director for Middle East Affairs at the National Security Council until March, 2003. In this role, he advised President Bush and National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice on Arab-Israeli issues and U.S. relations with Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, the Palestinian Authority, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. Previously, Dr. Leverett served on the Secretary of State's Policy Planning Staff, handling Middle East and counterterrorism issues. He is the author of Bashar's Trial By Fire, the editor of The Road Ahead: Middle East Policy in the Bush Administration's Second Term , and earned his masters and doctorate in politics from Princeton University.
