Michael Kammen, professor of American History at Cornell University, received his PhD from Harvard. He was host and moderator for the "States of the Union," a series of 50 one-hour radio programs broadcast by National Public Radio during the bicentennial year. he received a Pulitzer Prize in History in 1973 for People of Paradox: An Inquiry Concerning the Origins of American Civilization and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1979.
