Lt. Col. Matthew Swanson was a member of the Air Force Crisis Action Team, a group assigned to respond in the event of a disaster, during the 911 terrorist attacks on the Pentagon. He was in the basement of the Pentagon when the attacks occurred and immediately carried out the rescue plan he helped create. He has been recognized for his leadership during those difficult circumstances and has first hand experience on how ordinary people became real life heroes. He is Chief of Fiscal Control and the Integration Branch of the Air Combat Command for the United State Air Force, and a graduate of Iowa State University.
