Reducing Energy Demand through Conservation
Alan K. Meier, a senior scientist with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Energy Efficiency Center at the University of California, Davis, studies how people and equipment use energy and how to reduce energy consumption. He conducts research on topics related to energy efficiency, including low power modes, test procedures for appliances, and indicators of performance for commercial buildings. He has written more than one hundred articles and established several websites offering unique technical content related to standby power and real-time display of electricity supply and demand. Meier has degrees in chemistry and economics and earned his PhD in energy and resources from the University of California, Berkeley. The discussion will be moderated by Mark Kushner, collegiate professor of electrical engineering and computer science and director of the Michigan Institute for Plasma Science and Engineering. Part of the Engineering Thematic Year on Energy and Sustainability.
