P.H. Elwood Lecture in Landscape Architecture With the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture
David Orr is the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics at Oberlin College and the author of The Last Refuge; Patriotism, Politics and the Environment in an Age of Terror. In this book he advocates a coherent environmental agenda, vigorous public discussion of the issues, improved political leadership, and an increased emphasis on environmental study in higher education. His other publications include The Nature of Design: Ecology, Culture, and Human Intention; Earth in Mind: Essays on Education, Environment, and the Human Prospect; Ecological Literacy and the Transition to a Postmodern World; The Campus and Environmental Responsibility, edited with David Eagan; The Global Predicament: Ecological Perspectives on World Order co-editor and contributor with Marvin Soroos. A Des Moines native, Dr. Orr received his doctorate in international relations from University of Pennsylvania. Reception in Gallery 101 to follow.
