Karen Stenger MA, RN, CCRN-K began her college education at Iowa State University before transferring and obtaining her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Iowa College of Nursing.  She is a Nurse Practice Leader in the Intensive and Specialty Care Nursing division at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics where she provides education, evidenced base care and support to patients and staff in neuroscience and safe patient handling. She has been awarded one of the 100 Great Nurses in Iowa in 2006, the Corridor Business Journal Healthcare Hero award in 2012 and a Women of Influence in 2016. Jeffery Walker is a burn survivor after a suicide attempt.  He spent over 18 months in various healthcare facilities on his recovery journey.   He is currently a student studying psychology.  He will share his story and the impact that professional healthcare providers made in his life.  He is the 2022 EasterSeals Independence Award Recipient. 

 

Ms. Stenger will discuss how pursuing a profession in healthcare can open many paths to fulfilling a passion with purpose and Jeff Walker will describe the impact that healthcare providers can make on a person’s life.
