Dr. Jon Kaas is a Distinguished Centennial Professor at Vanderbilt University and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He has made substantial research contributions toward the understanding of the connections and functions of the cerebral cortex within the mammalian brain. His work has also provided key insights into the field of evolutionary biology of mammals. Dr. Kaas was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2000 and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2001. His other honors and awards include the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award from the American Psychological Association and the Karl Spencer Lashley Award from the American Philosophical Society. He is the editor of the four-volume series "The Evolution of Nervous Systems."
