Joel Breman is the deputy director of the Division of International Training and research at the Fogarty International Center, National Institutes of Health, and has worked for the CDC, WHO, and other international and domestic organizations. As an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer, he was a key player in stopping the first recorded Ebola outbreak at Yambuku, Zaire in 1976. In a recently published article in the New England Journal of Medicine, he wrote of the global potential for "biologic terrorism" and proposed that we destroy stockpiles of certain viruses.
