Sister Harman has worked in Nicaragua for 20 years, first as a teacher of the Mesquito Indians, and later as a director of a school in Managua. her pastoral ministry with the poor in the Barrio Riguero in Managua led to their active involvement in the revolution. She is now head of the Social Area on the national Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Nicaragua. Her duties include coordinating prison rehabilitation programs for former Somoza National Guardsmen.
