Howard Sachar is Professor of History and International Affairs at George Washington University, and a consultant and lecturer on Middle Eastern affairs for the United States Foreign Service Institute. He is the author of 15 books including : The Course of Modern Jewish History, From the Ends of the Earth, The Emergence of the Middle East, Europe Leaves the Middle East, A History of Israel, The Man on the Camel, Egypt and Israel, A History of Israel since the Yom Kippur War, A History of the Jews in America, and Europe and Dreamland: Europeans and Jews in the Aftermath of the Great War. He is also the editor-in-chief of the 39-volume The Rise of Israel: A Documentary History. Steffen Schmidt, professor of Political Science, will moderate. This speaker is the first in a series planned by the Ames Coalition for Peace.
