Credited with opening the door for many Black entertainers, Mr. Gregory found comedy and expedient avenue for getting people's attention-making us think as well as laugh. His participation in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's is well documented, as are his efforts for world peace, against hunger and issues confronting Native Americans.
