Petra Kelly was chairperson of the West German Green Party - an anti-militarist, ecological and nonviolent grassroots party - and was the leading candidate in their first national elections in 1979. Since her election to the National Parliament she continues her active involvement in German and worldwide peace and feminist movements. Petra Kelly won the Alternate Nobel Prize 1982 and the Peace woman of the Year Award in 1983.
