Two artists will discuss their experiences and challenges with the First Amendment within the art world. Participants include former Des Moines Register editorial cartoonist Brian Duffy and American medallist and sculptor Heidi Wastweet. Brian Duffy's editorial cartoons appeared on the front page of the Des Moines Register for twenty-five years. His animated editorial features can be seen on KCCI-TV and are nationally syndicated through King Features. Heidi Wastweet is a commission-based medallic sculptor and a studio artist who specializes in bas-relief bronzes. She serves on the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee, which advises the treasury about the designs on all the coins that circulate in the United States. 2013 First Amendment Day Celebration

Brian Duffy has received two Best of Gannett awards, two World Hunger Media awards and was a finalist for the prestigious John Fischetti Award for editorial cartooning. His two books are A Decade of Duffy and More of Duffy. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Heidi Wastweet as chief engraver for Sunshine Mint for eleven years and lead designer/sculptor for Global Mint for five years. In conjunction with a wide variety of private mints she has produced over 1000 coins, medals, tokens and rare coin replicas. Medal and coin credits include a seven-coin set issued by the Sultanate of Darfur, Mayo Clinic visiting physicians medal, Stanford University Alumni medal and Island records Willie Nelson portrait. In addition to medalic art she has also created a number of public art pieces, including eight bronze relief panels for twelve-foot high church doors for St. Paul's in Pensacola, Florida.
