Gerardo Budowski is Director of the natural Resource program, University for Peace in Costa Rica. He was instrumental in developing the Man and Biosphere program at UNESCO and later became director general of the International Union for Conservation of Nature before heading the Centre for Tropical Agriculture and Forestry in Turrialba, Costa Rica. He received his doctorate from Yale University in forest ecology and has published over 180 articles.
