Harvey Molotch is a professor of sociology and metropolitan studies at New York University, where he conducts research on issues of city growth and urban security as well as on product design and development. He is the author of Where Stuff Comes From, four other books, and several hundred articles, chapters and reviews. He has been a frequent participant on various public and commercial radio and television programs, including the BBC's "Thinking Aloud." Before joining the faculty at NYU, Molotch was a Centennial Professor at the London School of Economics, chair of sociology and professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, as well as a visiting professor at Northwestern University, University of Essex, Lund University, and SUNY Stony Brook.
