Holly Burkhalter is Washington Director of Human Rights Watch which includes Helsinki Watch, Americas Watch, Asia Watch, Africa Watch and Middle East Watch. She is a contributor to The Human Rights Reader and co-author of With Friends Like These and America's Transition: Blueprints for the 1990's. She is a member of the Council on foreign Relations and lectures on human rights at the American University.
