Jonathan Kozol, first in his class at Harvard with a degree in English Literature and a Rhodes Scholar was an unexpected but effective ally i the civil rights and anti-war campaigns of the late 1960's and has remained an energetic and unbroken activist since. The first of his eight books, Death at an Early Age, triggered a storm of national concern tat led to the wholesale transformation and desegregation of the Boston public schools. Since then, Kozol has continued to address groups of teachers and students at hundreds of conventions and colleges.
