Alvin Singleton was composer-in-residence with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, served as resident composer at Spelman College and was the Unisys composer-in-residence with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Many of his compositions deal explicity with societal and politcal issues including 56 Blows, a commentary on the Rodney King beating.
