Michael R. Gottredson is Executive Vice Chancellor and Professor of Criminology, Law, and Society at the University of California, Irvine. His research and teaching specialties are crime and the criminal justice system. He is the author of several books, including Personal Liberty and Community Safety; The Generality of Deviance; and A General Theory of Crime. He has published numerous articles in the professional literature about the causes of crime and crime policy. He has frequently consulted with state, county and federal governments concerning criminal justice policy.Dr. Gottfredson has served as the Director of the Criminal Justice Research Center, a private not-for-profit corporation in New York, and on the board of directors for The Parent Connection in Tucson and for the Crime and Justice Research Center in Philadelphia.
