James Karr is professor in the Department of Fisheries and Zoology at the University of Washington. He is the author of Restoring Life in Running Waters: Better Biological Monitoring and many other books and over 100 articles. He is the recipient of the 2004 American Fisheries Society Carl R. Sullivan Fishery Conservation Award for outstanding contributions to fisheries and aquatic biology, and played a major role in the development of the Index of Biotic Integrity.
