One Child, Two Languages: Second Language Acquisition in the Early Childhood Classroom

Dr. Patton O. Tabors, Head Start expert, will discuss the impact of the sharp increase in early childhood classrooms with large numbers of children enrolled from other than English-speaking homes. Dr. Tabors will also discuss the need for early childhood educators to develop a new understanding about the process of second language acquisition, how second language acquisition can be facilitated and assessed in classrooms, and how to provide support for parents of English-language learners.
