SUMMARY:Phylogenomics and Drivers of Megadiversity in Monocots
DESCRIPTION:Charles E. Bessey Lecture\n\nThomas J. Givnish conducts researc
 h on plant ecology\, evolutionary biology\, and biogeography\, with a focu
s on plant adaptations for energy capture and reproduction\, adaptive radi
ation\, speciation\, historical biogeography\, and drivers of species dist
ributions and plant species diversity. He and his students have conducted
phylogenomic and ecological studies on many groups\, including bromeliads\
 , orchids\, lilies\, and monocots as a whole\; Eucalyptus\; and the Wiscon
sin flora. Givnish received his PhD in biology at Princeton in 1976. He is
the Henry Allan Gleason Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin
-Madison\, a Fellow of AAAS\, a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London\,
