What happens when musical theatre collides with water science? Urinetown: The Musical—a satirical Broadway hit about corporate greed, water scarcity, and failed revolution—has become a surprising cultural anchor for Iowa State’s interdisciplinary work on water resilience. This collaborative STEAM-focused presentation will serve as an introduction to ISU Theatre’s production of Urinetown as well as the work of the newly-formed Water Resilience Collaborative before bringing together voices from theatre, environmental science, and communication for a moderated panel to spotlight urgent water crises in Iowa and around the world while showcasing how the arts can catalyze public engagement with complex research.
