Three economic experts with ties to Iowa State will provide their perspectives on the U.S. economy under tariffs, new leadership of the Federal Reserve, historic increases in federal deficits and debt, changes in the federal government's dissemination of economic statistics, and changing policies on immigration.
Katharine G. Abraham received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Iowa State University and Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University. Her career has included appointments at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Brookings Institution and, currently, the University of Maryland. She served as Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics and, from 2011 to 2013, as a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. She is a past president of the Society of Labor Economists and is the President of the American Economic Association. Her research focuses on labor markets and the measurement of economic activity.
Benjamin A. Malin is vice president of the Research Division of the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank. He oversees the division’s economic analysis informing the Minneapolis Fed’s decisions on U.S. monetary policy. Dr. Malin joined the Minneapolis Fed as a senior economist in 2012, after spending six years as an economist at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics and mathematics from Iowa State University and a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University.
Genevieve Signoret is the President and Head of Asset Allocation at TransEconomics based in Mexico. She comanages two private equity funds in the United States, one focused on venture capital, the other on commercial real estate. Aa a Registered Investment Advisor, she manages portfolios for high-net-worth families across the Americas. She also edits emerging market research at GlobalSource Partners in Manhattan. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in economics from Iowa State.
