 nRobert Costanza is the Gund Professor of Ecological Economi
 cs and Director of the Gund Institute for Ecological Economi
 cs at the University of Vermont. He is also the co-founder a
 nd past-president of the International Society for Ecologica
 l Economics. His research has focused on the interface betwe
 en ecological and economic systems\, particularly at larger

 .m. in the Memorial Union Oak Room.\n\nRobert Costanza curre
 ntly serves on the editorial board of eight international ac
 ademic journals. He is past president of the International S
 ociety for Ecosystem Health. In 1998 he was awarded the Kenn
 eth Boulding Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions in
  Ecological Economics. In 2000 he received an honorary docto
 rate in natural sciences from Stockholm University. He has s
 erved on the Scientific Steering Committee for the LOICZ and
  AIMES core project of the IGBP; the US EPA National Advisor
 y Council for Environmental Policy and Technology (NACEPT); 
 the National Research Council Board on Sustainable Developme
 nt\, Committee on Global Change Research; the National Resea
 rch Council\, Board on Global Change; the US National Commit
 tee for the Man and the Biosphere Program\, and the National
  Marine Fisheries Service Committee on Ecosystem Principles.
 \n\nCostanza's research has focused on the interface between
  ecological and economic systems\, particularly at larger te
 mporal and spatial scales. This includes landscape level spa
 tial simulation modeling; analysis of energy and material fl
 ows through economic and ecological systems; valuation of ec
 osystem services\, biodiversity\, and natural capital; and a
 nalysis of dysfunctional incentive systems and ways to corre
 ct them. He is the author or co-author of over 300 scientifi
 c papers.\n\nHis work has been cited in more than 3\,000 sci
 entific articles since 1987 and more than eighty interviews 
 and reports on his work have appeared in various media\, inc
 luding Newsweek\, US News and World Report\, The Economist\,
  The New York Times\, Science\, Nature\, National Geographic
